Providing low cost housing throughout Queensland
Churches of christ Care is one of the largest not-for-profit housing providers in Queensland with a wide range of housing types across locations throughout south-east Queensland. Our Care Housing programs provide low cost rental housing options for individuals and families in need who are:
- earning low incomes
- discriminated against in the private housing market
- homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Care Housing services include short term, transitional, and long term housing.
Housing support is also available from our Family and Individual Support Service to assist tenants with income arrangements, budgeting and referral to specialist services.
One social housing system
Queensland’s one social housing system includes all products, services and programs provided, funded or subsidised by the Department of Communities, ranging from high subsidy assistance such as rental housing to other products such as bond loans to renting a home in the private market. Having one social housing system creates a more efficient and responsive social housing system and supports the integrated provision of a broad range of housing assistance for low income Queenslanders.
Key features of the social housing system include:
- simple entry points for clients to access a range of housing assistance. Eligible clients can apply for all forms of social housing through one point of entry.
- one housing register replacing multiple waiting lists operated by community and local government housing providers.
- standard processes to assess clients’ eligibility for a range of services, and to allocate clients to housing.
- social housing provided to people with the highest need, but only for as long as they need it.
- connecting clients to support services as needed.
- assisting clients to leave social housing and enter the private housing sector.
Care Housing supports the one social housing system
We acknowledge the funding and assistance of our strategic partners. Affordable Housing Capital Grants Program, community rent scheme, emergency accommodation, community-managed housing studio units program and the long term community housing program, are programs of the Queensland Department of Communities.
