Older Peoples Action Program
Care has established the Older Peoples Action Program – Safe and Confident Living Project, which operates from Golden Age Retirement Village on the Gold Coast. The program works intensively with individual clients, referred to the program, who are at high risk or are already experiencing social isolation and loneliness.
The role of the program is to work with older people living in the Gold Coast City to enjoy a safe and confident lifestyle. We do this by:
- maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of community services and agencies which support older people to live safely and with confidence
- providing a support service which responds to the social issues affecting older people
- increasing older people’s knowledge and use of community resources available through short courses and information sessions on topics such as being safe at home and in the community, using ATMs etc
- encouraging older people to maintain or extend their levels of participation in the local community
- working with older men, teaching them new skills such as 'Cooking for One or Two' courses, One Person CPR, Older Drivers Safety Courses etc.
