Care’s services and staff are supported by over 600 volunteers who generously give of their time and skills to help support those in need throughout our local communities.
By volunteering with Care you can support our residents and clients through assistance with everyday activities, social visits, leisure and recreational activities and a host of other tasks.
What is there to do?
Volunteers can choose a number of voluntary activities across all of Care’s services including aged care, early childhood care, foster care and housing and support services. Volunteers assist in providing:
- companionship
- pastoral care
- administration support
- social and recreational activities
- marketing and fundraising
Volunteer Rights and Responsibilities
Care complies with the standards set by Volunteering Australia which promotes the following as the basic rights of a volunteer.
A volunteer has a right to:
- work in a healthy and safe environment (refer various occupational health and safety Act[s])
- be interviewed and engaged in accordance with equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation
- be adequately covered by insurance
- be given accurate and truthful information about the organisation for which you are working
- be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses
- be given a copy of the organisation’s volunteer policy and any other policy that affects your work
- not fill a position previously held by a paid worker or do the work of paid staff during industrial disputes
- have a role description and task agreement with agreed working hours
- have access to a grievance procedure
- be provided with orientation/induction to the organisation
- have your confidential and personal information dealt with in accordance with the principles of the Privacy Act 1988
- be provided with sufficient training to do your job.
Support and Training
Care provides training to all volunteers in accordance to legislative requirements, and the nature of work undertaken by the volunteer. This includes
- induction training
- role/task specific training
- professional development training
- refresher training
